Since shockwaves through the sporting world, a sinister plot was set in motion, orchestrated by Jeff Galoi, the ex husband of Karrigan's skating rival, Tanya Harding. Kargan was the only obstacle standing between Tanya and her Olympic goal. She became the target of desperation in a palm and a twisted gate betraying in an unlikely cast of characters, including a hired hitman Shane Stant and his uncle Derek Smith, all under shadowy orders from Galley and Tanya's bodyguard Shaan Eckart. The motivations were crystal clear competition, lust for fate, pursuit of fortune. It was a sinister cocktail that brought together this motley crew of amgard hooligans to do this devious act. But the route to the story go way beyond that faithful day in January nineteen ninety four, which to go back to Tanya's upbringing and the sport of figure skating. The sport of figure skating is often known as one of the most expensive sports to get into. Requires a lot of equipment in finding locations that have an ice erm in a good coach that can be with you one on one. This is a lot of money, and Tanya Harding not grow up with a lot of money. Her family fog for every time on the ice they could get, and Tanya showed great talent and grit, but she always was fighting for more. It was very envious of the other skaters that didn't have to fight for their time on the ice. But she knew if she made it to the Olympics, she would have fame and money would follow in her rival, Nanci Karrigan Pittimize the type of person that didn't have to fight as much as Tanya did, and their competition continued to grow. February fourteenth, nineteen ninety one, Tanya emerged victorious at the US Figure Skating Championships over Nancy Carrigan. In Germany, she once again secured a silver to Kragan's bronze. At the ISICU World Championships that same year, Tanya accomplished a feat no American woman had ever done before, executing a flawless triple axle and competition, showing she had great skill and dry to do more. But pressure was building as the nineteen ninety four Olympics was almost here, and Tanya did not want to miss out on her chance to make the Olympics and achieve her goals. And who stood at the top of the US Figure Skating Championships that day, Tanya Hardy, securing her place in the Winter Olympics in Norway. Despite Karagan not competing, fellow figure skaters offered their spot to show solidarity, and this attack started a crimical investigation where they were talking to anyone and may have wanted Karrigan to skate tiny Harding was at the top of that list. They were interviewing everyone around her, including her bodyguard Sean Eckhart, who eventually confessed January twelfth in incriminating stant Giluis and Smith. All were arrested. On January only seventh, Jeff Galoui, the masterman behind the attack, confessed incriminated Harding, even though Tanya still denied her involvement and maintained that she had high standards of excellence and sportsmanship expected from an Olympic athlete.
