[00:00:00] Every way 18, 2001, the world lost one of the superstars, NASCAR Fist, Dale Earnhardt's seeing pass away during an accident. They turn up 500. Here's a story behind Dale Earnhardt in these tragic events. Welcome to Daily Sports History.
[00:00:23] I mean, Ethan Reese, you're guide to a rapid deep dive into sports history. Read it. Dale Earnhardt heals from where NASCAR is archimally, the links, North Carolina. Born in 1951, his racing roots, go back all the way to his father who was a successful
[00:00:42] with stock hard driver as well. In fluents, Dale's passion for racing. Though Dale didn't have success right away, he struggled to find his footing in the lower levels of just stock hard racing. Even dropped out of high school in 1967 to pursue racing, full dive before finally being
[00:01:01] able to break through into the NASCAR Premier series. In 1975, after his debut, he continued racing at NASCAR's highest level, the Winston Cup series or time until 1979, he was able to secure a full-time slot. But he didn't start with his iconic number three car.
[00:01:23] It wasn't until the 1983 season when Earnhardt joined the Richard Children's Racing Team, replacing Ricky Rudd when he was given Rudd's number three as Rudd replaced but more is 15. So I'll do imagine Earnhardt driving anything else besides the number three car. It came famous for it.
[00:01:43] One thing Dale was always known as was his nickname, the Intimidator, when she got in the 1987 season. To depart at the Winston Allstar Race, during the race Earnhardt was briefly forced into the infield but kept control of his car and returned to the track, without giving up the
[00:02:01] lead, showing that nothing could stop him, intimidating all the other racers behind. One thing just as important as the number three is the sponsor that really affects the look. How people proceed, you become connected with that brand and that brand becomes synonymous.
[00:02:22] The driver, Dale's longtime brand was good-rich services, a tire company which decided to go in all black car, their tires, this also helped the intimidation factor of the owner driving the all black car coming up behind you, being honest, the man in
[00:02:40] black was Its Johnny Cash, one thing that was always a challenge for Dale Earnhardt was arguably NASCAR's biggest race that did Tona 500, wasn't until 1998, he finally won his first Daytona 500 but unfortunately three years later were the tragic event to place.
[00:03:02] In 2001 they took a 500 and everyone the last conversations that he may have had talking to his crew chief during the caution, every nearby's for me coming up, no man just keep doing what you're doing. I'll talk to you later sadly Dale Earnhardt crashed on the last lap of
[00:03:22] the race, fortunately the wreck caused. That's a what? Accident occurred in turn four, the final turn final lap, he was close to finishing the race. Earnhardt made like content was sterling Marley, it's little of course, the attempt to regain control,
[00:03:45] and turned back onto the track, he crossed in front of the intracar, hitting straighter, and dragging his car up the track, and her Earnhardt relied with the retaining wall at a speed of roughly 155 miles in the air, enough to break the wreck real simply, car, upon the
[00:04:07] fence sever, causing the hood to open against the windshield multiple times. Earnhardt's son on her junior was completing the race that no one was going on, straighter climbed out of his car and went to go check on Earnhardt, though a window that was still up, the immediate relives,
[00:04:28] that what he was looking at was a checker flag in the other flag were a way of simultaneously. We were seeing NASCAR race, Earnhardt wasn't necessarily egregious as we seen cars fly up in the air, flip over or over and over again,
[00:04:45] sometimes you just hit it just right, and in just enough geForces to call us the day. He was officially determined to duck, luck forced Trump, who's hit it. As the end of school for
[00:04:56] extra from the instance in NASCAR is taking huge look, important safety is racing, it changed how the headers are strained during the race, hoping to protect and lessen the chance of more
[00:05:13] injuries more fatality since this tragic day, not been any more fatalities in NASCAR, that is a mean something might happen as these cars continue to go faster and faster, but luckily they proven safety just assuming to keep up the increase of speed. After his passing, the Richard
[00:05:33] Children's Racing team would retire the black car via pledge to not already use the sponsor or the number. Since this passing his son Dale Harden Jr has become another fixture in the eyes of NASCAR,
[00:05:48] out taking the same mental as his father, if the intimidating, but becoming a star at his owner. It's a great reminder of how dangerous some of these sports be what, especially auto sports as the speeds they reach are sometimes faster than we've ever gone in our lives.
