On January twelfth, nineteen ninety two, two unsuspecting teams, the Troy State Trojans and the Devrai, clashed in the basketball game that would forever which its names into the sport's history books. This game was played down in Troy, Alabama, and it was packed to the rafters of fans eagerly awaiting a tiptoe. But little did they know they're about to witness something extraordinary. The Troy State Trojans were coached by dynamic coat Don Mastride, had a unique gameplay. Their philosophy high speed, high scoring basketball. They believed in sealing the ball on every possession and if they missed, they allowed the opponent to score quickly. They also believed in scoring very, very big. The game started with the flurry. Troy Estate, in their typical style, raised to score their first basket unless the minute into the game, but despite their fast pace, the points kept pouring it. With three fourteen remaining in the first half, Troy State had already crossed the one hundred point mark. Guard Tommy Davis set it best, when you see one guy hitting it, then everyone gets in the act and it becomes contagious, and indeed it did. The Trojans into the first half with a staggering one hundred twenty three points, breaking their own NCAA record first single half they set the previous year. The second half was no different. Within three minutes, the Trojans score twenty six points and they didn't stop. The scoreboard couldn't even handle the number, forcing a reset to zero. The statistics were mind blowing. Trozen State had made fifty one to three pointers, more than double the previous record. They scored two hundred fifty eight points, and ten of their eleven players scored in double figures. The game was a whirldwin, an unbridled display of offensive firepower. At the final buzzers, the scoreboard read two hundred fifty eight to one hundred and forty one in favor of Troy State Trojans. They'd made history, setting records that seemed unbreakable. Three hundred and ninety nine combined points, a hundred and thirty five points by one team in a single half, and fifty one three pointers in a single game. The game was more than just record break It was a testament to the unorthodox, fast paced, high scoring philosophy of the coach, and it was a reminder to the sports world that the impossible could become reality.
