January eleventh doesn't seem like a day baseball would be in the news. It was the day Alex Rodriguez was the day one of the largest suspensions in the history was reduced to only one season. Let's find out the story behind this. Welcome to daily sports History. I'me Ethan Reese, your guide to a quick, deep debt. Every day in the heart of the baseball world, a storm was brewing. The epicenter was a name that echoed through the storied history of baseball. Alex Rodriguez. This was no ordinary suspension. It was scimetic event that would shake the very foundation of America's pets. It was a day that would go down in the books, remiscent of the day of the Black Socks scandal nearly a century ago. Major League Baseball had taken a stand with a swift, sweeping, unyielding punishment for over thirteen players, also including Nelson Cruz, Johnny Pirata, and Eveth Cabrera were all caught in the crosshairs of justice. Their destinies forever changed the biogenesis of America. An anti aging clinic in the sun soaked state of Florida was accused of dealing in the shadows distributing forbidden fruit of performance enhancing drugs Ryan Braun just month prior, was just the beginning of a domino of guards that were now starting to fall. But it was Alex Arrigaez of the New York Yankees and a legendary slugger who the brunt of the storm. The three time MVP and the highest paid star at one point in baseball, was handed to punishment that was unprecedented, covering two hundred and eleven games. A Rod never wanted to back down, declared his intent to appeal, fighting for his place in the game that he loved. Arbiter Frederick Horowitz was expected to have the final say, but the verdict would not come till January, leaving ay Rod the glimmer of hope to make his debut in the season. The other twelve players, perhaps seeing the writing on the wall, chose a different path, accepting their fifty game penalty and a chance to return to the field and possibly rewrite their story for the baseball world. But a Rod would not compromise. MLB's verdict was clear and damning. A Rod's drug penalty a consequence and his use and possession of numerous forms of illegal performance enhancing substances was only half the story. He's still accused of attempting to cover up his violations by engaging in a course of conduct intended to obscure and frustrate the Office of the Commissioner's Investigation. Rodriguez, no stranger to controversy, attempted to use PEDS during his tenure as a Texas Ranger from two thousand and one to two thousand and three, but denies any wrongdoing since setting the stage for this epic battle. Unfortunately for Aira, he still missed the twenty fourteen season, but his suspension was reduced to one full season, one hundred and sixty two games. This definitely tarnished his legacy, kept him from becoming possibly the all time leader in home runs, as he was on the path at the time to make this in. Losing a whole season prevented this and has tarnished his reputation. The ped era that started in the mid nineties and went through the two thousands has multiple surefire Hall of Fame contenders such as Barry Bonds, Rafael Pemero, and Mark Maguire. If not for these shadows of peds, these men would for sure be in the Hall of Fame. Now a rat is having to deal with the same issues. His resume says hall of fame, but his shadow and backage she carries says cheater. It's up to the baseball writers to decide if he will ever get in the Hall of Fame. The question is was it all worth it? In the end? Thank you for listening to the Day's Daily Sports History. If you like this, please rate and subscribe where for your listening we can't.
